Would your company purchase a product where your own DBAs couldn't administer one particular instance? I know mine wouldn't. They've got trust in us and not with the third party vendor. From the other thread, it seems that their application is going to handle DBA related maintenance routines. Could you imagine? The user just needs to click a button to get the indexes rebuilt. Imagine that occurring during peak hours.

I don't know why he doesn't just encrypt the data. It solves all of his problems.

I just wonder how many people have been to that guy's company's web site...

Maybe someone could contract that company as a joke and see what the hell they really are doing...

This looks to me like someone wants to take advantage of clients who know no better.

It would not surprise me to find out these jerks had something to do with that piece of junk Pervasive time clock software mess I inherited.

Can you imagine being the DBA at the company that purchased this product? I would gouge out my eyes if I had to work on their SQL instance through their application.

Tara,
If I was the DBA, I think I'd buy a support contract, and call support EVERY time I needed something done. Maybe they would get the message that if the DBA had the rights to do this stuff, that maybe there would not be so many calls.

I think if you want to get folks outta yer propritary database, then goto a hosted model.
