So today has been quite a day...

Changes, bugs, additions, crunch time..

I start my normal worrying and emotional yelling about my software when all of a sudden a user says the best thing ever:

"Jon stop worrying and start taking everything like a grain of salt, cause in 10 years no one is gonna give a rat's a** about your program"...

He's so right!!!

Brett,

Yes you're absolutely right...maybe that is what I need a margarita..maybe a couple of them.
Sometimes you know how it is..you just want to do a good job..but you want to do it your way...and you just hate it when requirments are not signed off on or even noted.

That's my whole point..I guess I'm not the only one..that sure made my day.
The problem is I'll develop something according to what the "team" needs..and months later..they want to see an entirely different things because of the guys in "Bremmen" ... (da GERMANS ARE COMING!!!).

So it's like these are major changes though at the table design (i hope that italicizes) level. I mean features I can understand but major changes to relationships (not even additions..I mean modifications..those are so much worse :().

But if you really think about it..I guess it doesn't matter...and we have 24 more minutes till five brett..that margarita sounded tasty..dont know about chi chi's after that whole green onion scare :-d..

Ahh if only I played the lottery..and won!!!

Is that a deleted post?

In any event...modeling the business....seeing what's going on around you, should give you a clue as to what's needed....and talking to the users...

I've never had to radically alter a model after inspecting what's going on...

You model the business....and unless the business changes...not much in the model should change...

damn...

shop talk in a non work related thread....

damn...

Yelling at an ex-Ranger can not be a good idea.

I'm waiting for my breakthrough user/coworker on an issue I get all the time. I'll explain it but I can't wait for any one person at my company understand my point.

I get this request or similar,

Q. "I want to publish a document to the web but I don't want people to be able to save it, can you do that."

A. "No"

Q. "Why"

A. "because anything a person can see they can capture"

Q. "Well what about right click > save document as can that be disabled?"

A. "yes, But to what end all you are doing is frustrating the would be saver into capturing what he wants."

This goes on for a few days and the requests come in about Adobe downloads zipped up with security, touch pad signatures, etc. The requirement changes a little. For example....

Q. "What I don't want is for people to modify the original document"

A. "That document is stored on the network, thus secure it with network security"

Q "Will people still be able to copy it"

A. "In some form, Yes, We went through that already"

Q. "How will I know a document has not been changed."

A. "Well if the document is going to be distributed then you need to use a public/private key scenerio. Both ends of the line need to use tools that gaurentee authenticity, often via encryption methods."

This is unsuitable so, off they go to think of a thousnd other approaches to the issue, I prod them with Questions like is it the ideas you are trying to protect?, is it a legal requirement?, do you feel someone might steal something?. Providing answers all along the way the user still can't get it through their heads the idea that once someone sees something on the computer screen you have given it away. If authenticity is the requirement then there are a million encryption tools out there that gaurentee authenticity and make the document unreadable to anybody but the people you want to.

It never does get resolved of course, either because I don't know what the hell I'm talking about or no one believes me.
The resolution would be a great thing because maybe I'm wrong and then learn something, maybe someone would believed me then it wouldn't be so lonely in here.

Until either of those happen I'm gonna take the advice of Jon's user;
on this issue anyway....and buy myself a Lincoln Towncar for my birthday since I don't have a couch.

It is a rich creamy color with a high fat content of 5-7 percent. Being so high in fat, it is usually processed into butter, cheese, or yogurt. An average cow will produce 110 kg. Milk in a lactation period of an average of 149 days

There is a streched Caddy old square style available.
It's not one of those huge Prom stretches.
Just the extra row facing back. They might have been factory built like that.
