Anyone who works for a corporation knows or probably has experienced the EGO and political bull crap that comes with the job (for free!!!). Don't you love it when people who do not do what you do ... think they know what you do...and then question you?

A general engineer calls me today:

ge: Can you create a database with one table for us
me: huh? for what?
ge: we have a process for engineering and i want to create a database
me: so why dont you do it
ge: cause i dont have the tools
me: get the tools from an admin
ge: i cannot..i dont want to..all i want to do is access one db and one table just for testing
me: ok I guess I can create one db and one table, how many fields, what types, etc...
ge: dont matter
me: umm ok...

<end call>

5 minutes later

ge: whats the admin password
me: i created a user for you with a password i sent in your email
ge: isnt there an admin (sa) user account i can use
me: no, i created a specific user for this database
ge: why
me: because...is there anything else you need
ge: what did you call the table?
me: i sent all the details in the email
ge: ohh ok..i noticed you didnt prefix your table names with "tbl"
me: am i supposed to? didnt you say i can call it what I want ?
ge: ohhhh..i ve always read its a good design to do that..
me: hmm maybe you know more than me...i did prefix tables with tbl in access but I dont in SQL Server
ge: i guess thats fine
me: CLICK CLICK CLICK
<end call>

another bad day at the office???

I had this come through the other day:

billing rep: "The data looks bad. Should I go ahead and invoice it?"
my reply: "What do you think!?!?"
billing: "Well I need to get it out to the client..."
my reply: "Did they ask you for a f%@#$@^ up invoice??"

True story from my college days.

College Radio Station Call to Helpdesk: Please fix our terminal. We can't login.

I arrive. There is no drop in site.
Me: What happened to the cord that plugs into the terminal?
Dj: I have never seen one.
Me: Did this ever work?
DJ: Yeah, we use it every day.
Me: Search room for cable. Search building for wireing closet. Come back. Are you SURE this thing worked? There is no wireing in this building for a terminal.
Dj: Yeah, we used it this morning.
Me: errr What do you do with it?
Dj: We print our news on it and read it.
Me: Where do you get news from on this terminal!!??!!
Dj: We type it in.
Me: Type it into what?
Dj: Into the temrinal.
Me: Can you show me?
DJ: Sure. Presses clear display. Starts typing a few lines. Hits Print Screen Key. See, works fine.

Kristen, I had two bad things yesterday, d'you want to borrow one?
Your choice is:
Had to get to work by 06:00 to do a software drop.
Got home, switched on PC and after 10 minutes power supply died.
