Lately it's been rather slow in the market?

Anyone else having problems or experiencing a lot less business than normal? I need to find some work rather soon, getting very depressing.........

jhermiz, you are a Michigander!?!

It is a rich creamy color with a high fat content of 5-7 percent. Being so high in fat, it is usually processed into butter, cheese, or yogurt. An average cow will produce 110 kg. Milk in a lactation period of an average of 149 days

No suffering here but always sleeping with one eye open.
I've only been at this for about 3 years. Was a CAD operator before that. Now support and develop applications for 350 users. I've been FTE for all that time. Not very talented but have a good fit where I am because of a wide range of watered down skills. From what I've seen though small midwest manufacturers are in big "NEED" because so many have been Mom and Pops for so long. It can be tough though due to the diversity of their legacy requirements and lack of enterprise
data flow. Big shops like Delphi recently offshored their whole IT group. Barely made the papers, 250 folks. If I ever get canned, it's gonna be tough because I can't even define what my job is, I tell folks "I'm a database programmer and it is very exciting line of work."
I'd like to be a smaller fish in a bigger pond because it would allow peer interaction but there are advantages in being a lone gun. Autonomy and reponsibility for example.

"a wide range of watered down skills"

I'm going to steal that for future job adverts ... "The successful applicant will have ..." <g>

It reminds me of the sying: Know something about everything, everything about something, and play a musical instrument.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Be assured there are also a wide range of useless skills always at the ready, some are watered down though.
In two weeks I upgrade an ERP system and establish new hardware throughout, plus just a general tidy up around here. If fate has it I should suffer, mid September would be the corporate window of opportunity, to reorganize the IT department. That's how it happens, they come at you with love.
