hey all, this is a question for any USA or aussie DBA's (just so you guys know I am not a DBA hehe just a application programmer who uses SQL Server). However I am still curious, how much money a good DBA makes these days I have heard there is some good money in the industry if you’re decent.Anyone will to say what they are on or maybe what they think they should be on (realistically)------------------------------------------------------------------Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. There is good money in most parts of the industry if you're decent. Being decent is the hard bit DamianIta erat quando hic adveni. |

err money shouldn't be discussed, it all depends. I know dba's who make 45k and others who hit 6 figures easily...As long as you find a place you like that is what matters the most.Anyone got a buck for a soda ? I hear that the rate in America is a trillion dollars per hour, and that the DBAs sit in chairs made of pure gold, atop finest yak hair cushions, and perform their DBA activities whilst being fanned by servant-girls.-------Moo. :) |

I used to be of a mind that "You can't pay me enough to work in a place I don't like." I have since realized that was because I was thinking in terms of having to stay there for years and years. Most people tend to equate retirement with age, but it's been proven all around us that retirement is not a matter of age, but of money. Now, I'm more of the mind that I'm willing to do work that I don't like for a period of time, if the payoff is big enough and I can then quit and move on to things I enjoy. As for salaries, well, Merkin was spot-on with his comment that "being decent is the hard bit". Salaries for DBAs vary wildly in the USA depending on experience, size (and profitability) of company, location, and selling skills.---------------------------EmeraldCityDomains.com |
