A recruiter sent this link over to me... it looks a bit old but im sure the practice is still prevalent. Have anyone of you guys heard of interviewers using Google to screen candidates?

I can guess we can all forget about having private space on the net

Maybe you should always use a Nom de Plume when posting on the internet.

"Ms. Dixon suggests searching for your name on its own, and also in quotation marks"

... Results 1 - 50 of about 50,000,000 for john smith ...

That's a good plan then.

My surname happens to be shared by only a handful of relatives, so I'm stuffed.

Results 1 - 2 of about 71 for "Michael Valentine Jones"

are all @ SQLTeam

Yup, I can see already that this is going to be really helpful in recruitment

It was just like that moment on Teachers where Kurt is so disappointed that his namesake had a much better life than he did...

Sorry chaps, too busy to reply, I'm setting up web sites for the 15 fictious companies, who are on my CV as previous employers, saying what a fantastic ex-employee I was and how badly they miss me!

Ha! Good idea Kristen.

Its hard to believe that these managers would take Google as proven fact and actually base their decision on search results! Perhaps one of my future employers will come across this thread and discover that were on to them

Remember, you're talking about HR, which for most organizations is a combination of stupid, lazy, and arrogant.

Edit: I guess I better hope they don't find this on Google.

The Google exec didn't really have anything too shocking to hide.

Other people have really embarrassing moments immortalized on the web. As they say, one picture is worth a thousand words.

I'll bet this future CEO would rather not have to explain possession of a stolen credit card, possession of a synthetic controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary at a job interview:

I'm sure this future Presidential candidate will call her DUI driving a “youthful indiscretion”:
