Here's an article in Business 2.0 Magazine stating that the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 62% Growth in jobs over the next several years for "Systems analysts, computer scientists, and database administrators".

It also lists the cities in the U.S. that are expected to have the highest net gain in jobs in 2003.

Okies, little note on here... I'm looking to get out of me little canadian hole (Tired of eating whale blubber and living in igloos. That and one of my dogsled dogs has almost bit it) So question...

How much Database experience should I have before my resume will be taken seriously for a position in the states? 10 years? 5 years? 2 years?

any opinions on this one? (heh, or is the MCDBA good enough?)

Experience is important, but I don't think there's a hard and fast rule on how much you need because it depends on the level of the position you're going after. Most job posts in the U.S. will specify how many years they want. If you've only got 2 or 3 years and it says minimum 10, you can still apply but you most likely won't get it. A 5 year job though, that's within the realm. If you're within 2 years of what they want you should do OK, but remember that the DB job market is just starting to pick up here, and there are still enough people who fit the requirements exactly (or better than you do)

Also check out the job websites and look at resume samples, this seems to be a big thing. The U.S. seems to like a lot of different resume formats, yet none of them seem to match what companies in other countries like. One good rule is to keep it at 2 pages maximum, anything longer and it'll get dumped. You can always elaborate during the job interview. Definitely mention the certification, it'll get people's attention.

Hey M.E. it sounds like you must live near TORONTO, which as we all know is Inuit (Eskimo for you Americans) for "large igloo of many pasty-faced people hunched in front of glowing boxes". I hear there's quite a market up there in the frozen tundra of the north for IceQL. Again, for you Americans, that's a method of finding where you buried your winter (August-June) supply of fish.

Hey I know this is off-topic but with we Canadians jokingly perpetrating myths like this it's no wonder Americans show up in July with their skiis ready to hit the slopes!
