there once was a lonely test thread
which graz had conceived in his head
we can only presume
there was not enough room
because now the poor test thread is dead

graz the reaper
the dreaded board keeper
rose up and smote the test-thread
and now it's curse
is banal, pointless verse
how long before graz again has it's head?

Tim was a wee starting member
(or so he told us, each year in december)
and though quite a wit
he was no laureate...
"There can be only one" - please remember!!

Hey Tim - reckon graz was trying out a new embed...

what do you think it is?

= highly ridiculous - as in "
Solutions to the latest Yak challenge will be posted shortly
"

= hope this rates - as in "
there was young yak from seville...
or maybe -

= humourous reply - eg "
Stop now and avoid disaster
(so that certain poms don't think you have a contract out on them)
?

dear scribe

In the hallowed halls of King graz's domain
The concept of "one" is considered uncouth
For sqlTEAM is embodied in name
And many, not one, wield the truth

You sully your fair custom ornament
With the singular view you espouse
So I challenge you sir, to a tournament
Where with rhyming lances we'll joust!

it gets better with each revision - but my response still stands -

You think I got this name, accepting duels?
I'm of the poets and not of the fools!
I strictly adhere
to lymmericks and beer
Prithee good sir, tell me your rules!

Before you run off with elation
And begin your poetic speculation...
no fight can begin
(at least none that you can win)
without a clear specification!

Name your Rules!

(Hey - at this rate - this will likely last longer than a Aust vs England test match!)

Dear Laureate, my rules!

as lymmerick (sic) seems your norm
we'll contest in fixed form
my terms forthwith I confirm;

a ballade from each bard
a rondeau from each foe
a triolet to complete my set
and to give you voice
a fourth of your choice
(though I warrant the "lymmerist" knows not of one yet).

in the thrust and parry
all four must carry
SQLTeam as the dominant theme.

graz I appoint
and those he anoints
to conclude this feud
as it requires a man of esteem.

I further submit
that form, style and wit
if it pleasure be taken as measure.

finally the wager
suitably major
we play for the soubriquet
you so treasure!

PS, M.E. is the walkabout cafe still in the Inglewood district in Calgary? That's where we'll have that beer

Can I claim at this point that I'm sick?
And unfit to joust, punch, wrestle and kick?
For try as I may
To verse avante-garded-ley
Alas and alack, I can only lymmerick

(and even then not very well)

prolly safer at this point, before Fribble gets going - otherwise we'll both be in for it...

I must, of course, add (in defence)
that to lymmerick in SQL makes no sense
I've tried it before
But the rhyme was quite poor
And they told me to get myself hence
