Salute,I emailed one of the guys in SQL team about an article I was going to write so I get an email back from an Italian surnamed dude also known as Rob I think. Now he was quite nice in his email and asked me to send him a photo of myself... lol... no not really.. but he asked me to explain my code a bit more which I did the next day.Now I know that his article on duplicates is way too general as he selects DISTINT * from the table. This is fine for some people but what about specifying what constitutes a duplicate record? It could be 4 or 5 columns in a record but not the rest etc but not ALL the columns. Anyway.. I am not going to write my article here, but I just wanted to voice my annoyance at being IGNORED?!After my second reply.. I got NOTHING back.. not even a 'NO we don't want your friggin article' or whatever... I find that rude.. slightly more rude than the guy who was posting on the DTS forum (Cez I think)... he was ripped to bits for being obnoxious and rude... ummmm... I think being ignored for trying to help out is even worse if you ask me.Also... not giving a guy like me a custom title is a crime in itself so there.... .. Ooops.. did I say 'Cust.. Titl..' oh forget it Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom

Shame you're upset about it.You should be used to being abusive to people at work who think they know a bit about databases - politeness is not usually a vice found among dba's.Remember all your posts will be taken into account when you possibly get a custom title in 443 more posts (I think).p.s. Italian dude was probably Bill (sorry, Billio). He will probably use the lame excuse that he has a lot of work to do maintaining the free site and will get round to it eventually .==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Crespo,Rob and I are different people. My name is Bill and my username is graz. I'm the one you emailed. I'm not sure what to say to you. My turn around time isn't as fast as you'd like. You already commented on that in an email. Unfortunately I think you'd better expect that when you're dealing with someone that runs a free site in their spare time I can't always respond within 1 or even 2 or 3 business days. (Good guess nr - unfortunately a true one). Actually to be more accurate, when you're dealing with ME the above sentence describes my turnaround time. I don't want to speak for anyone else. I try to collect SQLTeam issues and deal with them once or twice per week. I wasn't trying or intending to be rude. I just don't respond on the schedule you expect. Now that you've decided to move this to the site rather than in email here's my response:
I'll consider publishing your article after I read it - the same as I do with all first-time authors.
Your SQL as originally written is virtually unreadable without knowing the table structure. Please rewrite it using either pubs or Northwind. If you need additional data for the sample, please include a script to generate it. Strive for the simplest statements that illustrate the concept.
Your article should be more text description that SQL. I'm willing to publish scripts with little commentary but not a concept as complex as the one you're presenting. It doesn't need to be long, just descriptive.
I won't respond in 1 business day. Sorry. Even after I've approved the article it may take 1-2 weeks to published depending on the schedule of articles.
I hope that clarifies things. Now, how about we get back to email for finishing this subject up?===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time.

Hi Bill (Have I got the name right this time?)I honestly did not realise that this site is maintained by yourself as a hobby since you guys have put so much effort into it. I thought it occupied more of your time. I do understand the time it takes to adminster sites etc.Anyway... I will work on the Duplicates business and will email you the rest of it sometime this week or over the weekend. Thanks for explaining your position. I didn't know that things moved slowly here sometimes. All I can say is that you guys have done a WICKED job here and I for one appreciates all the help that I have received over the last few months.Apologies again Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom
