Hi all,I just wanted to ask for your errr.. advice here. What is the best technology to learn along with SQL Server?I am comming to the end of my second year as an IT contractor. I graduated with a shitty degree in Applied Computing back in 2000, srcewed around for a few months and then started contracting in early 2001. I've worked on many things but mainly on Database Migrations. My first REAL challange was a contract in Paris (Migration using Oracle 8i/Unix Solaris etc.), that was for six months which is not that long really. My second main contract which is the one I am still working on also is Database Migration, but this one is using SQL-Server.I don't know much about VB, although I did do some VBA for a couple of months but that was mainly working on specific business objects relating to the pensions software that the company is using so I wouldn't call it VB as such. So, apart from having the usual web skills, HTML/JavaScript, Dreamweaver/ PSP, Photoshop etc + the obvious major ones (Oracle and mainly SQL Server) I don't feel like I have enough experience to go for a better position in the near future.So... any advice?Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom |

Gazing into the future you might want to learn C#. Read the <a href="http://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=11986"/>article</a> on the next version of SQL Server.p.s. Do you need to speak fluent french to get an IT contract in Paris? |

No you don't.... the project was managed by Accenture which is an international company. Most of the consultants there spoke fluent english anyway, but for me it was even better because I do speak french and my girlfriend (well ex now) did her degree in french AND I lived in Paris previously (when I was a teenage n00b)... so it did help me when I had to have a conversation with a french speaking billing expert.English is the norm in the IT industry anyway, but it does help having a second or third language to go along with your skills. Well, judging by my previous failed attempt at a hyperlink, I shouldn't hold my breath! |
