I am going to install SQL Server 2008 on a brand new Windows Server 2008 box. SQL is the only thing that will be on this box.

C Drive 80Gb
D Drive 1Tb

I thought the best setup would be to put the database engine on C drive and all the databases and logs on D drive.

Is that the best setup for performance?

Yes, according your configurations you have few options to apply.

You should put your binaries files in C Drive and all databases in D Drive in order to protect any problem in C drive OS system.
