Can I install 6.5 on XP or 2003 Server? What additional process is needed?

No. The highest it can go if I recall correctly is Windows 2000. You have to install service pack 5a though in order for it to work on Win2k, otherwise use NT 4.0.

Just curious ... Why is anyone still using old versions of SQL (6.5, 7)?

At the end of this month, I'm decommissioning my last SQL Server 2000 system! I haven't had to work on 6.5 or 7.0 in about 8 years.
