Background: Using Windows Server 2008 Standard (the online books say this OS is supported) 64-Bit (the disk says it has x86 and x64 versions)We downloaded the Enterprise Edition, the trial, on our server. All is well except it expires here in a few days. After referring to the online resources we decided SQL Small business would be the best option for our small business.I inserted the disk into the server, clicked on the Maintenance tab, and am doing the Edition Upgrade. I enter the Product Key, and that works everything is fine.I select MSSQLSERVER for the instance of SQL Server specified. This brings me to the Edition Upgrade Rules screen where I fail the'Operating system supported for edition' test.To elaborate the error says : "This SQL Server edition is not supported on this OS. See server books online for info about supported OS for SQL Small Business Server edition."Since we researched this and found that it is indeed a compatible version, I am a bit surprised we cannot get this to work. Does anyone have any information about SQL Small Bus Edition and compatible OS'? Maybe I am updating this wrong...Can anyone shed any insight on this issue? |

Did you un-install your Enterprise Trial first?I wonder if the fact that that is there is causing the problem (there is probably NO "upgrade" path from Enterprise to SBS).Not sure if you will have a problem restoring backups from Enterprise DB to SBS server. If you have taken advantage of some of the Column Compression functions of Enterprise I think that is not possible to restore to non-Enterprise version, but I am not sure about other variations. |
