I don't understand why is my differential backup file (4 pm file) is so much larger than the all log backup files combined. I thought the file size disparity between the log and differential backups shouldn't be that large. Is the huge file size difference between log and differential backups normal?

On my SQL Server 2005, I have the followings running:

1) Transactional replication.
2) Full backup - run nightly at 8 pm.
3) Differential backup - run twice a day (10 am & 4 pm). Morning differential backup file size is 700 mb. afternoon differential backup file is size is 12 GB!
4) Log backup - every half hour from 7 am to 6 pm. total file size of all log backups for the whole day is 900 mb.

TLog backup would record "DELETE FROM MyTable"

Differential backup would record every page in the database file that was changed by the command itself.
