I have a non-unique index on a table: Col1

Now I have just added a non-unique index on the same table: Col1, Col2

My question is, should I remove the original index on Col1?

Would it make any difference if the index on Col1, Col2 was unique?

Most likely, yes. The index on Col1 is redundant now with the wider index there, regardless of unique/non-unique status of the new one.

You'd only leave it there if the new index is significantly wider and using it reduces performance of queries that used the old index significantly.
