Hi there. I'm new here, this is my first post. I hope this is the correct forum for this question. If not, I apologize. I couldn't see a more obvious one.I was having trouble creating an ODBC data source. I googled for help, and found a page advising that MDAC should be installed. I downloaded from the Microsoft page here and installed. http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6C050FE3-C795-4B7D-B037-185D0506396C&displaylang=en SQL Server instantly stopped working altogether. Applications that I wrote that worked before now return an error message saying unable to connect. I try the management studio tool, but that can't connect either. see error messagehttp://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc144/PeterMorris/Misc/etc/2.jpgI don't see MDAC in the list of installed system updates, so I can't uninstall. It might be there under a different name, one of those long numbers, but I don't know which one.I've tried system restore, hoping to rollback to before the install. It fails, due to unknown error. I tried uninstalling and re-installing SQL Server. It didn't make a difference.I've tried Component Checker. I understand this can be used to sort out MDAC problems. I get an error message telling me that CC doesn't work on Vista. Please help.I'm using SQLServer 2005 on Windows Vista Home Basic. |

By the way, is it possible to make links from text in this message board? the usual code that I've used on other boards doesn't seem to work here. |
