Hi
I have a server in a data center and when I register a new SQL server I can see other SQL servers on the local network, and I expect they can see mine.
How can I stop this?
SQL 2000, Svr 2003, Windows Firewall.

Thanks
Rob

Try stopping the SQL Server Browser service. You'll need to test from another machine if that "hides" your system. If it does hide it, then disable the service.

Sorry, I could've sworn I read 2005! SQL 2000 does not have this.

You'll need to somehow block port 1434. I don't know enough about the Windows firewall to be able to help you with that.

Test whether or not your server can be seen then by going to another computer and using the SQL client tools.

i think you can hide your instance...check the client tools for the option...

will look for an mssql2000 server and check it out myself
