Hi,

I'm trying to install 2008 R2 Express on my Win 7 (32) machine. The install fails because the installer says it finds an instance of 2008 Express already on the machine.

Looking in Add/Remove programs, I don't see any references to SQL Server 2008.

I do have VS 2008 installed.

BTW, in the past I have used the "Developer" version of SQL Server 2005. Is there a free Developer version of 2008, or do I have to get by with Express for my development?

Developer Edition isn't free. It costs about 50 bucks, I believe.

Check Services in Control Panel/Admin Tools. You'll likely find SQL Server*.
