I may not remember this correctly, but I thought I saw a SQL stored procedure that would verify the existence of an email address against a remote SMTP server.Anyone heard of this? I'd like to be able to generate a report of questionable email addresses.Sam |

I have never heard of this. I am definitely curious to know if this exists because we've got a project that could really use something like this.Tara |

I forwarded the document to two developers here at my work. They had come up with a different solution to their problem because they didn't know how to validate e-mail addresses. The solution is in production now, but maybe we can go back and put this one in instead.Tara |

I remember seeing a skeleton stored proc posted here to validate the structure of an email address....so that it conformed to acceptable naming conventions.however...rather than deal with ensuring an address is valid at point of entry...why not ignore how valid it is or not...and just deal with the results of the bad-addresses.....after all an email address may be valid today, but deleted tomorrow....and how is your application going to know about that change?dealing with the results of the bad addresses could be done simply by following this link....http://www.sqlteam.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22270I also remember seeing a sample proc to validate IP addresses for existance (or to translate a webname into an ip address (I can't remember which))...which be what you were thinking of....and which might be of some use to you.... |
