You can install 32 bit sql on a 64 bit box but not the other way around. I would recommend you stick with the same architecture though and 32 bits is for old people.

Hi Lumbago,

I have already study the link, but I have no time to test, Will you please advise me any specific 64 bit OS as I mentioned in my topic at which Sql server 2008 32 bit installs and runs smoothly without any problem or error.
Previously I have tried on windows 7 64 bit,(sql server 2008 enterprise edition 32 bit), when I double click setup.exe it shows men the error message of .net framework 3.5 not installed and do nothing (installation not proceeded) I have tried every possible things but not succeeded.

Regards,
Raza

1. Are you installing from an original DVD?
2. Are you installing on a clean OS?

If the answer to any of the above is "No" then I suggest you attend to this first. The .NET framework 3.5 is a requirement and it normally installs itself as a part of the SQL installation process. [/b]It is however normal that the sql server installation is seemingly doing nothing for several minutes[/b], just be patient...

Hi Lumbago,

I have downloaded and try to install .net framework 3.5 on windows 7 64 bit but it was unable to install, (I have donloaded the .net framework 3.5 version from Microsoft web-site), then I tried to install .net framework 4 and successfully installed,

But when try to run sql server set up it produces the same .net frame work 3.5 error, althouh i have installed .net framework 4.

Now I want to know if I have installed the higher version of .net framework (version 4)then what the hell is this microsoft product doing and asking me to intall .net framewok 3.5
