Hi Guys, new to SQL and the forum

Wondering i could recieve any advice? We have a 64GB SQL 2005 64 bit server in our corporate estate, basically the memory usage climbs and climbs until it reaches like 55GB onwards until performance on the box really slows and im worried the box crashed.

Should i limit the memory and if so, what to?

Thanks

You can increase the memory of the sql server database anytime. RAID Arrays are helpful in this scenario.

Well you should always limit the max memory, but only enough for the OS and other processes. For 64GB server that is a dedicated database server, I'd set the max to 56GB or thereabouts.

I highly doubt that the box is slowing though, and it certainly shouldn't crash. SQL Server is designed to be a memory hog.

Is your database server dedicated to SQL Server?
