Hey, you guys just helped me out and you didn't even know it! I've been banging my head against the wall all morning trying to figure out why some summary counts I was doing to validate processing were not coming out. In fact the numbers that were coming out appeared to be downright impossible! You know, like 8 - 5 = 6 (using base 10).So, finally, out of desperation, I started to put together a post with all of the relevant information, description of the problem, subtotals, showing why they should add up, but didn't. Suddenly, as I was about ready to post it, I realized where I'd gone wrong and why the subtotals I had wouldn't necessarily add up. Then gathering the right subtotals, everything worked, and all was well again in the world. (And there was much rejoicing... yea.)So, thanks for all your help! Here's a for you. And I'm off to get my Starbucks fix, because I obviously didn't get it earlier. ------------------------------------------------------The more you know, the more you know you don't know. |

I have found my problem now and then just composing a post that is never posted here. I try to test my assumptions (things I believe don't need testing) before posting - just to be sure. Often I'll find the assumption doesn't hold and this'll lead to the solution.SamGive a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking . |

No it was more along the lines of that riddle about 3 guys checking into a hotel and pay $30... Familiar with that brain bender? Well, basically, it comes down to adding two things together that sound like they should add up to a third total, but don't. In reality, even though those two sound like they should on the surface, it's really a different set of numbers that go together to create the total.------------------------------------------------------The more you know, the more you know you don't know. |
