 how to add some values to an existing data

I want to add some data to the existing data in MsAccess. I tried

update tableset empno= empno&'CL' where empno='2100010';
update tableset empno= empno||'CL' where empno='2100010';

This doesnt work.So plz tel me how to achieve this using Ms.access.

You forgot the set clause

update tableset set empno= (empno+'CL') where empno='2100010'
