How are you conecting? SSMS? Integrated Security or SQL Login?
Is it SQL 2000? Or SQL 2008?

From the windows vista client:
- ping the Windows 2003 Server. First with name, then with IP address.
- connect using sqlcmd

On the Windows Server 2003
- check the SQL Server ErrorLog. Are you auditing failed logins? Is there a error related to the failed login from the client? What is the state of the error message?
