Hello,

I am new to SQL and not sure if this is the proper place to post this question but I am really starting to pull my hair out over this problem.

A client of mine is a software developer and he is asking me to write a help file for an application he developed. This particular application accesses an SQL database so in order for me to run the application, I am using an instance of SQL Server 2008. Unfortunately when I attempt to run the program, it will not connect to the SQL database.

Here are the steps I have taken so far to try to get this to work:

I enabled SQL Server Authentication in SQL Server Management Studio;
Using the sa login I restored the database backups he supplied me with;
I created a login within SQL server and the databases themselves and gave it admin rights to the databases

The connection manager can find the instance of SQL Server that I am running but the login always fails.

Hopefully someone here has some insight as it is really starting to get frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any help.

In the case there is more than one sql server instance ensure you are connected to the correct one.

Try connecting(in enterprise manager) to the instance / database with that particular SQL Server login. (as a test)

Ensure that the sql server is configured for network connections. TCP/IP most likely.
