Has anyone got this error message and do you know how to fix it.

SQL Server setup has encoutnered the following error: The given key was not present in the dictionary.

I have 2005 installed, and I installed 2008, is this error because I can't have 2 of them on the same machine? I'm not trying to run them at the same time.

You can have both on the same machine, and you can run both at the same time. So no, that isn't the reason.

I'm not familiar with that error message, so I'm unable to help with it.

I've seen it in association with reporting services (cached data not matching report) but not sql server setup.
Have a look at the install log and see what it was doing.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
SSIS can be used in a similar way.
