I cannot use the copy db wizard because express doesn't have agent.I cannot make a back up and restore as they are different versions.I tried using the db publishing wizard but it is taking way to long.Any ideas? |

Script out all of the objects and apply the scripts against SQL Express.BCP all of the data out to flat files.Bulk Insert all of the data files into SQL Express.Remember that there is a 4GB limit on database size in Express. |

Providing you're going up-version (2005-2008 or 2005-2008 R2) you can use backup/restore.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP |

What version are you backing up from, and what version are you trying to restore to? Yes, if you are trying to backup from a 2008 instance and restore to a 2005 instance that won't work.Since you are working with the Express Edition, could you not install the appropriate Express Edition and restore to that instance?Jeff |
