hi

i use to take Full backup on ad-hoc basis of a specific database. I did it on 01 Jan 2011, 16 Jan 2011 and 09 Feb 2011.

My requirements are to re-instate the 19 Jan 2011 1:00 AM state.

Now when I try to restore the backup of 09 Feb 2011 From Disk, and specify the "Point in Time"=19 Jan 2011 1:00 AM option via SSMS GUI (using SQL server 2008), the details of the selected .bak file gets disappeared from the details window (just below the From Device box)

confused as if isn't it possible to have point in time recovery using the .Bak file? Or what else could be the reason ..

Many thanks!
MIK

You have to also apply tlogs to get to a point in time. You can't just use a full backup.

A full backup can only restore to the point that the backup was taken. The StopAt command is allowed when restoring full backups, but it is ignored completely.
