I did a script transfer of the backup job and the code as

BACKUP DATABASE db1 TO [db1] ...

So my question is where's [db1]??

It's a backup device. Check the device's properties to see where it went.

Which device properties? How do I check it?

The 2nd backup job was scripted as
BACKUP DATABASE db2 TO [db2]

So I'm not sure which device to check.

You can query sysdevices. See link above

ahhh .. thank you so much. it is in the sys.sysdevices.

Or for future extreme noob, it'll be under Server Objects in SQL Server Management Studio as well.
