Hi there,

I noticed a couple of people posting from UAE. I've always wanted to be an I.T contractor there but I am not sure how it's done. I am 24 years of age and have 2 years experience in the I.T industry (Oracle previously and SQL Server for now). Are there any guys here who could advise me on what to do?

Good Luck!

Hi Crespo,

AFAIK contracing doesnt works in dubai. you have to work as a full time employee and i can say the payscale is good especially if u r coming from west.

you can search a job thru one of these sites .

www.bayt.com
www.gulfnews.com
www.khaleejtimes.com
jobhuntdubai.com
bacdubai.com

for thing , apart from the weather you wouldnt notice any difference . its a nice developed city.

Thank you for the reply.

I don't really mind being a full time employee or contractor there but I just would like to work in UAE because like you said, it is a well developed country. I also have the added advantage of speaking Arabic so would that make my job prospects any easier?

Apart from the obvious need for certain skill sets, what else do they look for when someone from the west decides to make a living out there?

Your help would be appreciated.

Good Luck!

Arabic would be a added advantage . but i dont think it should make lot of difference coz all the locals here speak English pretty well.

Good and varied experience would be your best asset.

Hi Nazim,

Obviously, most people in UAE would have a good command of the english language so maybe it wouldn't probably imporve my job propects.

What I am interested to know though, is what type of skills set are required these days? Is 2 years experience enough to work in such places?

Good Luck!

Judging by the search results I received through Bayt.com, I don't think I will be able to work in Dubai for the next 100 years!

Not many jobs going, not for a young IT guy like me

Oh well, there is always another time

Good Luck!

Crespo , dont get disheartened. the best way to find a job in dubai is come on a visit, and try with job recuriting agency's , give a AD in a newspaper too.

I don't think I am able to visit UAE just so that I can post my CV with a couple of companies. It costs a lot of money and I am in no position to do so.

The websites you refer to are quite poor especially Bayt.com which promised a lot yet hardly any jobs there at all!

As someone who works in Dubai, is there anything else you could advise me on? Possible companies to contact etc.

Good Luck!
