Ok, I've seen a lot of you guys with a custom title while most have 'Starting member'. How do I change mine to be something different?! Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom |

Bribing Graz might help. Of course, you could always spend two years or so here answering questions and helping out DamianEdited by - Merkin on 10/28/2002 08:04:48 |

Hmmm... I would love to help out more, but having my monitor facing the guy who is in charge of my contract kind of restricts my internet freedom. I am sure he would much rather have me get this data migration going that to answer some question on the forum! I am not sure about bribing Graz though... mind you... he might be interested in my article about removing duplicates from tables. Anyways... Graz.. if you read this... PLEASE PLEASE let me have a custom title.... I want to be called a 'SQL Night Elf' Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom |

Crespo,Did you get my latest response about your article? Please reply to that via email if you did.Sorry but custom titles aren't handed out for the asking. Our automated system will actually give you a new title after 11 more posts (I think) though. ===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time. |

Does that mean that even AFTER the next 11 posts I don't actually get to choose the title? Does it assign a random one?!Hmmmm.... 'SQL Night Elf' would be so kewl Oh yea... regarding the article... I am going to email you my code again with more comments in a couple of minutes. Thanks for the reply anyway. Best Regards.Crespo.Hewitt Bacon & WoodrowEpsomSurreyUnited Kingdom |

Crespo,I've been here about a year, I haev nearly 500 posts, and I still don't have a custom title. I think custom titles come after 1000 posts.Michael<Yoda>Use the Search page you must. Find the answer you will.</Yoda> |

I don't know about Graz, but I sure would not want to take 5,957 requests for custom titles. Crespo, another solution is to solve the next reader challenge. The last time, Graz offered a custom title to the winner. Of course you may have to wait several months before the winner is announced. Jeremy |

...or you could make smartass remarks about the moderators and their inability to finish articles when promised. Nice title Jeremy, how'd you get it? |

The first batch of titles is assigned based on post count. They aren't assigned randomly. The list currently tops out at 1,000 posts. I was assigning people custom titles after 1,000 posts. I'll probably continue to do that but no guarantees.Custom titles are rarely (as in almost NEVER) given out on request. The idea behind a custom title is that they reflect something of you. After you've been around for a while we can get a feel for who you are and craft a respectable title. The other benefit we get from waiting is to make sure you're going to hang around. Custom titles are earned based on participation. There will ocassionally be an opportunity such as reader challenge to earn a custom title. Unfortunately the best way to get one is to not want one . Weird, huh?joldham is right. I really don't want to be bombarded with custom title requests. However Rob certainly set a dangerous precedent. A not so subtle jab at a moderator gets you custom title??? Look out Rob! Here they come! Just remember that doesn't work with me ... usually. So Creso, hang around. Ask and answer questions. Who knows what might happen.===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time. |

Oh and on a related note, I didn't pick my own title. It was assigned to me. I think by robvolk but it may have been Merkin. Don't really remember.===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time. |

Crespo, The starting member enjoys a childish innocence, as yet unspoiled by fear of rebuttal. No Question is too great. No Question is too small. No Question is your master. You know a freedom the custom title holder has relinquished many posts ago when they crossed the Chasm. Enjoy the thirst of youth. Grasp the SQL Team cup with both hands and drink deep brother.Embrace your Starting Member for tomorrow it may be lost!Edited by - tim on 10/28/2002 21:01:06 |

The curse of the SQL Night Elf.There was-a-yak from Epsom, in SurreyWho appeared to be in somewhat of a hurryHe was bored with his tag"Starting Member? 's such a drag!""I'll give these SQLers some curry!"Now he noticed that titles were assignedbased on how many answers one could findso he posted, alrightposted all day and all nightTill his post count read nine-ninety-nineBut his luck ran out the very next dayFor while he'd been posting awayHis boss (in frustration)Had seen no data migrationAnd sacked him without any paySo forever he will no doubt remainThe yak with an automated nameThe tale of his curseNow recited in verseWarns us all to avoid seeking fame. --I hope that when I die someone will say of me "That guy sure owed me a lot of money" |
