.... then...or do you need a more detailed explantaion. .MCDBA is a valid qualification - just no substitute for experience. To pass it you need to know most things that are available but not when they are applicable.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

Why is it that we read book after book, article after article it seems to go by in a blur …… Then we find ourselves in a situation and you scratch your head going where did I read how to fix this? I sometimes think sensory overload is a mainstay of the I.T. profession. |

Not only is it sensory overload but also buffer overflow. I can still remember IP addresses of most servers that I supported at my last job (which was over a year ago now)! How do I get rid of this information? The answer: more beer!!!Tara |

Next time do what Einstein did. He refused to memorize piddly things like his phone number, or possibly his address, so he could be left to more important things. The trick is to not memorize them in the first place. Just know where to look it up at, and there is no reason to memorize.----------------------"O Theos mou! So to put this in terms that we'll all understand ... all I really need is the foreign key to lookup my phone number rather than the phone number itself? Cool.===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time. |

Reminds me of the stupid company a few years ago that tried to launch an alternate DNS business using phone numbers instead of names. They figured that 832 3836 2046 was easier to remember than mycompany.com because we already have to know phone numbers. And they wanted everyone to download a browser plugin to make it work.Ahhh, 1999...what a wonderful time Damian |

Valid interview answers:Don't know - I always look in bol (preferrably with "but something like")I always copy this from one I've done before.Today I seem to have remembered charindex and patindex syntax but that's unusual.I was once asked what type of locks the server took when doing an update - fortunately they didn't know what really happenned and were expecting a one word answer. They gave up on that one after a few minutes of the something like bit.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

I think the effects of some "warm and non-fizzy" beverages from that excursion into the wilderness have not fully worn off yet ... - Jeff |
