Being told "You don't need to do more analysis and writing use cases are useless, we've told you what to build."

Count of major revelations and paradigm shifts since "development started", over 10 AFAIK. It's been less than 2 weeks.

To be a successful manager.

Make random decsions.
Put design in charge of inexperienced people - they'll miss all the necessary things that complicate projects.
Make sure everything gets reported as on scedule.
Ignore any dire warnings from experienced people (but keep them around).
Get it released whether it's working or not.
Get people to work there balls off to fix the problems (these will be the people who have continually pointed out problems that you've ignored).
After it's fixed (or at least working a bit) say very loudly that it's because of the decisions you made and that you new the problems were better fixed after release.
Now get rid of anyone who's going to be honest before they spoil your career path. It's all a support issue now.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

That's why a lot of the work now is fixing systems rather than designing them.

And why development budgets are going down whereas support budgets are increasing.

My latest enquiry.
We've had a system developed in India. It's fine for a few users but falls over with more than that. We've found they don't have any sql server experience - can you have a look at it.

Scary the way things always change, yet always stay the same, isn't it ?

See this thread :

http://www.sqlteam.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24427

If you haven't run into some of the issues mentioned here, you may still ... (disregard the starting point about outsourcing - my view is that badly spec'd = MASSIVE rework/fixing regardless of internal or external development).

Good luck !!!
