The opt-out of telemarketing site www.donotcall.gov was announced today.Talk about a web design not meeting demand, I haven't been able to load the page all day. I presume it's being bombarded by users dying to get out of telemarketing lists.I have a bad feeling this is a glimpse of the future of customer services sites (both govt and commercial) on the web.Sam |

Yeah a lot of news lately about this...Just registered my number...Found it WAY bizzare-o that they ask for your phone number and email address...as if that's enough to authorize the blocking..Now it's not that anyone wouldn't like to block telemarketers (how are they going to do that?)But what goverment BONEHEAD (must be a manager) thought this through...I mean what kind of authorization is that? Hey Rob, want me to block telemarketers for you...no problem...Brett8-) |

It's a secret plot by the telemarketers to get you e-mail address so they can spam you instead of call you!! No trees were killed in posting this message. However, a large number of electrons were seriously inconvenienced! |

I can easily see telemarketers challenging the list because the blocked numbers were not authenticated against their owner.Probably got lawyers already working on it.Sam |

Charities and political organizations are exempt from the list, so the 'easy' strategy is to purchase of those so they can keep on rolling ...Jonathan{0} |

I have a better solution, Lets create a caller ID system that displays the Home and cell phone number of the calling telemarketer. This way we can call and annoy them, preferably at dinner time. After all turn about is fair play.JimUsers <> Logic |

The information that is transmitted to your caller ID box is called the "ANI" (ppl say 'annie'). The first switch that the call originates from is responsible, but not required, to pass it along. Nearly all call centers have their own switch and can therefore not pass it if they don't want to.Years ago I was a partner in a collections/skip tracing agency; we had a predictive dialer and a switch and we played those sort of games as well.Jonathan{0} |
