in another thread far, far away, I was trying to find out why jobs scheduled by EM on my new laptop are created without error but fail when they run. I was forced to use EM on my old laptop to do the job. This is the only thread that keeps my old laptop around, cluttering up my desk.

With no solution in hand, I forgot about the problem until it bit me this week. After 30 minutes of debugging a job, I tried my old laptop. It successfully schedule the DTS script that I'd created with my new laptop.

I'm considering removing the SQL installation on my new laptop and reinstalling. Of course, this will no doubt create lots of other problems.

Any last suggestoins? (Hey - it's Friday and it's slow. We need some posts on SQLTEAM).

Does that mean you have an instance of SQL Server running on your laptop?

You're not talking clinet tools are you?

And if it says it didn't fail, how do you know it did...(it's not a miracle thing is it?)

Shouldn't this be in the ADMIN forum

Yes TGIF. Even though I have to work a full day today then come back in for maintenance tonight for a few hours, I'm very happy that it's Friday too. The weather has been pretty hot this week and a bit gloomy, but I think I might head to the beach on Sunday anway.

I've got SQL server running on both laptops, but I am having a problem getting EM to run jobs on a remote server. The jobs schedule with no error, but fail when scheduled to execute (only when my new laptop is used to schedule the job.)

This is the only problem I've experienced with my new PC.

What is the error that you are getting on the failed jobs (check the job history)? The fix could be as simple as changing the owner of the job.

It's gotta be like Tara says...hell, all of my EM stuff is remote...

And it's not EM running them..it's the server, no?
