I recently stumbled over this covering letter from an applicant in our Online recruitment system, and I found it very intriguing. This guy is a South African and has been brought up amidst turmoil and been through some really turbulent times. But his words are so full of hope and optimism, and he constantly exudes a positive attitude. There is really something about this guy, and I particularly like the way he expresses himself, very poetic. Worth a read and certainly some food for thought for the new year.>>who am I ?I am…………a twenty three year old male on a relentless pursuit for personal perfection in matters pertaining to my mind, my body and my soul; initiated on the bases of a career orientated life style in the computer field with clear objectives in attaining my fullest potential and power to transcend the madness of a world divided against itself and which seem to threaten the very fibre of humanity of not only the individual but the society of man the world over. With my roots thus embedded in a depressed social and economic morass, abandons me to choose with a single minded devotion the only sensible choice for survival; that I was to be a “fighter”. “A real fighter", someone who was not willing to give in to the unfortunate circumstances that I found myself in and who was willing to do whatever it took to free himself from the impediments of not believing in the power and potential of one’s own self, to conquer and to change those very challenges and limitations of life to one’s own benefit. Thus defined I, the meaning of my success at an early age in the pursuit of excellence in the computer field, specialising in networking and which I sincerely hope to complete (Evening Classes) before the year ending 2002.Whereas, I concede that my choice in choosing a career in networking was well-informed and decisive and I entertained no doubt in my ability to master my path or paths, as it were, given the opportunity, in attaining all the qualifications and experiences necessary in reaching my highest potentiality.Nevertheless, apart from my studies in computer networking which I intend to resume soon, I am presently involved in a self-initiated programme of training selected number of youths in the discipline of body building. One of the principle underlining my programme is abstinence from habits detrimental to the physical health of the participants. It fills me with a profound sense of inner happiness and achievement in having successfully wean a number of these youths affected by substance abuse, cigarette smoking and other concomitant evils by impressing upon them the importance of channellising their energies and valuable time in a discipline well-founded in the training of both the body and the mind.I have a passion for life for what is good in it, all else I leave for the vultures. That the secret of my success lies within me, and that the follies of youthful ignorance shall beguile me not; for I believe that at best I am my best friend; at worst I am my greatest enemy, and in the loneliness of my own shadow I shall find my muse, my inspiration; otherwise my own shadow shall become the source of my greatest misery and sorrow……..failure, as it were, in the life of this World and the Next.In the dictionary of my vision on how I conceive my future, the word ‘failure’, ’negativity’ and ‘despondency’ shall find no place to breed; and therefore consider the career of my employment at whatever level as a stepping stone in honouring the very best in me in my sincere attempt to attain the highest success.YT |

Interesting, you bet! But I don't think he made the cut, though...HR managers hardly ever have the time to read long covering letters, or don't get inspired easily enough OS |

Pity. I'd like your writing style. Slightly reminds me Evelyn Vaugh. |
