Anything strange in that particular nomination? I didn't see anything in the article about that guy that seemed that bad or controversial. I'm not trying to pick a fight, just asking.quote: Originally posted by X002548...Well the latest series of appointments could be called questionable...

Actually I don't find the nomination strange at all.Not that I have the faintest idea who the guy is,but he seems to have all the qualities that would make him a prime candidate.>> Just Remember we are crazy by design not by accident. That has nothing to do with pleading insanity, does it ?Ok, what's the strange part ???rockmoose |

The problem is that most opinions about things here in the US are strictly based on the politcal party you belong to, and very few true original opinions are formed about the actual topics themselves.- Jeff |

The US has a number of other political parties, but their candidates rarely get elected to any national or even state-wide office, and very few at even a local level. The national parties in the US are "big tent" organizations that would probably split into multiple parties in other countries. The political struggles within the parties are just as important as the struggles between the parties. The nature of the US electoral system, with "first past the post" elections means that any successful party must appeal to a wide variety of people. This keeps the major parties in a struggle for the voters in the center of the political spectrum, because they are the swing voters that really decide the elections. It also means that more radical political points of view get squeezed out of the two parties. The irony is that the two major parties are very similar, but the rhetoric is very bitter. As Henry Kissinger said about political fights in academia, "The fights are so bitter because the stakes are so low."quote: Originally posted by elwoos Yeah I always wondered why you only had two parties. To be fair we have quite a few others. I think my favourite has to be the Monster Raving Loony Party even though the major parties often look like they are adopting policies that should belong to them.steveA sarcasm detector, what a great idea. |

He's dead though, isn't he (Screaming Lord Sutch).Mind you, I did like his policies - to wit: "Why is there only one monopolies and mergers commission?" Kristen |
