Any at the companies you guys work at?
For instance, google has those famous chefs, and working out...intramural sports...etc...

We have ... umm let me think ... nothing!

Trip to Vegas last month for doing a good job. Not a bad perk. I work for a small company though so it's definitely the exception. One place I worked at did offer bonuses but they were more like defered salary taxed at 50%.

Ah, gotcha. No nothing like that. We're scattered all over the country so that would be difficult.

We have a gym, and things they call NovaPerks. Those are discounts that aren't really discounts but get some people to buy stupid things thinking they are getting a discount discounts.

I work for a pretty small company, so nothing major.
They did give everyone (contractors included) an iPod mini for Christmas though, that was kinda cool.

wow some of you are spoiled...NO free food here hardly ever, unless someone happens to bring in donuts or bagels and wants to share. Boy am I jealous ;) from what people at google, sun and yahoo are doing.

Call of Duty! I love Call of Duty. Does anyone else think it's funny to give a bunch of programmers a gym membership as a perk? I don't believe physical fitness ranks high on too many programmers lists of things they're good at.

We work "flex hours" which used to mean work a Saturday, take off Monday. "Flex hours" has a new definition this millenia: anytime they want me I'm expected to be there

Then there's the trips to Rio, but everyone get's that. Right?

We have our own gym, squash court etc on site but I don't use them. Does that count? I also get flexi time which means I can choose my hours (and don't have to work weekends). We get a good pension scheme too as well as some discounts (genuine ones mostly) at some shops (both local and national). I also get to stay places overnight (London yesterday) coz it's cheaper to do that than to go for the day!

To make up for all this we get poor pay (compared to the private sector)

Doesn't everyone in this industry have flexi time? I thought it was a world-wide standard?

I just changed from a job (in defence) where we had free softdrinks and bickies, 6 weeks leave (rather than the usual 4) and extra superannuation contributions, income protection insurance. The 6 weeks leave was the best. Oh, and we had a subsidised canteen for lunch, a doctor who came for visists once per month, a subsidised masseur, free yoga (not that I did any), free lunchtime seminars once per month on a topic of interest (lunch provided) and the company met us dollar for dollar on contributions to our Social Club - which organised a monthly BBQ (hey its australia) (beer and wine included) and various other events like quiz nights, go-karting, movies, dinners, picnics, etc etc etc.

Pretty cushy place to work, but in the end, it doesn't matter how cushy it is, you've got to do something you enjoy!

Oh, and I should add (for spirit1) that unlike Slovenia(?), in Australia we still have the remnants of free healthcare (mind you our Prime Minister is doing his best to ruin it) so we don't need work to pay for health cover.

This new place has....a shop downstairs where I can buy coffee? Oh, and flexi-time - doesn't everyone have that?

Health care is a big problem here.

Our medical insurance rates have climbed so high that we had to get the employees to absorb some of the cost.

The primary contributors to this seem to be malpractice and pharmaceuticals.

I was watching a special on PBS several weeks ago on pharmaceutical companies. They clamed they needed the high prices to continue research for new drugs. But it was discovered that they only spend about 7% of their gross on research and 80% of the money spent on drug research comes from federal taxes.

Malpractice is having a rash of doctors that have licenses and insurance from other countries that practice here. The senerio is that if they goof up they return to their country of origin. Then the insurance company claims no responsibility and the US hospital or HMO is left holding the bag. I know about this one first hand.
